Local Taupo fly fishing had a few fish go through the system this week with the Tongariro river once again the pick of the bunch with some very good Browns caught early on in the week. Wetlining the big pools just as the water starts to clear has been the key for some better quality fish. We caught some nice Rainbows on the Switch rods fishing with 12 foot Di10 Tips and some very big Conies. Moving on to the lower reaches we French lined the riffles and had a succession of Rainbows in quite a short time to Green Caddis nymphs on14#s.
On to a smaller local river on the way home to find that most of the fresh fish had moved upstream much faster than anticipated so home for tea. The previous day on a local lake we found it flat calm and testing conditions. We chased a ripple over the other side mid morning and got into some fantastic trout action including a monster Brown for that particular lake.
Winter runs are still not arriving in full force yet, we still need a serious barometer drop to get them running.
